Don't post as much
February 25th, 2004 | by nomaded | 0 viewsI'm sitting here, on the couch tonight, thinking that I should add a post of some sort to my blog. Actually, I've been thinking that I should post something for about a week now.
I was thinking that I would say something about the recent releases of <a href="http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/>Firefox 0.8 and OmniWeb 5.0beta2, but I just didn't get around to putting my thoughts into coherent writing, and now it's just feels too late to say anything.
I've been reading through some people's blogs (actually LiveJournals) lately when I have a little free time at work. I noticed that these people seem to have quite a bit to say about their daily lives. I look at my blog and there's not really a whole lot about my daily life. I mostly make comments about random TV shows, or movies, or random tech/geeky events that happen to be occurring at the moment. I've thought a little about why this is so. I think it has to do with the fact that my blog is not my only outlet of my inner monologue.
Day in and day out, I'm pretty much always connected to a small online community known as lily@RPI. is a CMC that was developed at RPI by some (at the time) students as an evolution of previous CMCs that had existed at RPI (namely CONNECT and Clover, see LilyGenealogy).
I virtually interact with these people every day, for close to 10 years now (though, I wasn't really a regular user til about lily's 2nd or 3rd year of existence). Several of these people I know "In Real Life" - some I knew outside of lily first, others I met because of lily. I would easily consider quite a few of them as friends.
But back to my previous subject, I think the fact that I can communicate/interact with other people, virtually, pretty much whenever I have free time, I don't feel the need to put something here in my blog. lily is real time, so once I say something, others will see it and may or may not respond as they feel fit.
I do think that having a blog is useful. It allows me to have another outlet for my mental diarrhea, so I can just spew out thoughts and ideas. And this also makes my thoughts and ideas a bit more permanent, and approachable by others outside of the lily@RPI community. And when I say "permanent", it's about as permanent as I want, since I do control my own web server. Also, comments made to lily@RPI are fairly evanescent since comments/events are only kept around for about 2 weeks.
Ah. I think that's good enough for now. It's getting late and I'm getting tired.
Sorry, comments for this entry are closed at this time.
